12-Sep-11:
Extra broadcast time on Sky TV for Superseries

BADMINTON England are delighted to announce that Sky TV have agreed to increase the level of broadcast time given to badminton and will now extend coverage to show Superseries highlights from September onward.

Following successful discussions between BADMINTON England, BWF, their agents Total Sports Asia, and SKY, an improved package of television airtime covering highlights of 5 Superseries events has been secured with some peak time broadcast also built into the scheduling.

The 1 hour programmes started with extended highlights from the India Open Superseries (repeated 3 times over 24 hours),  and continue with coverage of the Singapore and Indonesian events later in September.

Adrian Christy, Chief Executive of BADMINTON England, said of the agreement "It is really positive news that Sky have shown a commitment to broadcasting more badminton coverage and we are working with them to extend this to even more hours in the future.

"We will keep pushing forward to get the levels of media coverage that our sport, and our players deserve. Getting quality airtime and increased column inches in the press helps badminton reach out to new audiences and is critical in our mission to get more people back on to court."
