Chan Peng Soon, Goh Liu Ying and Goh V Shem are used to wowing fans on the badminton court but now Malaysia’s Olympic medallists are set to star on the silver screen.
Chan and Liu Ying secured mixed doubles silver at Rio 2016, while V Shem also came second alongside Tan Wee Kiong in the men’s event.
But director Adrian Teh insists he wanted to work with the trio even before their Olympic success, after casting them in cameo roles for Goodbye Mr Loser, a movie by production company Asia Tropical Films.
Chan, who is not new to the showbiz lifestyle after marrying singer Ester Cham, said: “I’m game for this new experience as long as it does not interfere with our badminton training.”
And Liu Ying added: “It was actually an easy collaboration.”
Chan and Liu Ying were last week seen filming in Kuala Lumpur, with one of the scenes involving the stars playing a young couple having a major disagreement, with V Shem playing the cousin of the lead actor Ian Fang.
“After watching them bring us Olympic glory, I knew that audiences would want to see more of them so I arranged for them to be in this movie together,” said Teh.
“For first-timers, they are very natural in front of the camera. They even managed to deliver some humorous elements that we asked of them.”
Goodbye Mr Loser will go into post-production in the next few weeks and be released at the start of 2017, with Hoon Mei Sim, Anjoe Koh, Jack Yap, Lex Pun, Tan Li Yang and Phoebe Huang among those to star.
