Reigning YONEX All England champion Kamilla Rytter Juhl has taken the big decision to call time on her title-winning badminton career after announcing to the world she is expecting a baby with partner Christinna Pedersen.
The prospect of the pitter patter of tiny feet inside YONEX Aerus 2 badminton court shoes sees the 34 year old hang up her racket after 17 years of great success on the world stage.
Rytter Juhl won Olympic silver in Rio, World Championships gold, seven European titles and has been a YONEX All England finalist on three occasions, including an emotional 2018 women’s doubles, win, alongside Pedersen, last March in Birmingham.
They are the highlights of a career also featuring 42 finals at international level.
Now motherhood provides her next big challenge.
Speaking to Badminton Denmark, Rytter Juhl said “"Although it has been a difficult decision to [make] that I should stop my badminton career, I can also feel that it is the right choice.
We are exceedingly happy that I managed to get pregnant and we are looking forward to being a small family.”
Here at the YONEX All England, we are thrilled for Kamilla and Christinna on their news but sad to see Kamilla leave the World Tour.
We have little doubt that she will be a medal-winning mum.
