Birmingham hosts exciting freestyle badminton activation

To celebrate one month to go until the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships, we took badminton to Birmingham last weekend, encouraging the community to pick up a racket and enjoy our wonderful sport in slightly different surroundings.

Taking pride of place in Birmingham New Street station on Saturday (February 10), a badminton court was the centre of attention as commuters caught a glimpse of the sport in action plus a few additional surprises, as the city prepares to host the most prestigious badminton event on the world tour next month.

Celebrating the brand refresh of the YONEX All England for 2024, there was a DJ to really bring the festival of badminton to life, as well as a collaboration between both badminton and football freestyle influencers.

Professional football freestyler and 10-time World Record Holder, Daniel Cutting, took to the courts alongside England badminton stars, Nadeem Dalvi and Oliver Butler, aka ‘The Badminton Bros’.

A morning of trick shots and challenges followed, with both footballs and shuttlecocks taking centre stage, and the crowd loved witnessing the talent on show.

The courts were then open to the public, with the local community enjoying the action, even getting some coaching tips from our very own England players.

As we hurtle towards the YONEX All England, which gets underway on 12 March 2024 at the Utilita Arena, Birmingham, we will continue to provide opportunities for people to pick up a racket and get involved in the sport we all love.
