Denmark win both titles at European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships

Denmark swept the board at the European Men’s and Women’s Team Championships in Lodz, Poland.
The nation that have dominated the event’s recent history secured their eighth and fifth successive titles in the men’s and women’s events respectively.
After beating France 3-1 in the semi-final to secure at least silver, Denmark beat Spain in the final to retain their title.
Carolina Marin beat Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt to hand the Spanish an early lead but Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt and Line Christophersen put their team in the driving seat with singles wins.
In the decisive women’s doubles match, Christine Busch and Amalie Magelund beat Paula Lopez and Lucia Rodriguez in straight games to clinch gold.
Scotland and France both took bronze.
On the men’s side, Denmark’s monopoly was challenged by France in the final.
The Danes, who won the first two matches in straight games, saw Rasmus Gemke emerge victorious having been taken deep into a third game by Christo Popov, with the match lasting 83 minutes.
