Jorgensen makes a welcome return to Birmingham

Fans will be delighted to see a welcome face back in the mix at the YONEX All England 2018 – and it comes with a new hairstyle and extra swagger.

It’s that of fan favourite, Jan O Jorgensen.

The 2015 runner up has been missing in action on the world circuit since July when a mid game injury forced a withdrawl against Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting in the first round of the Australian Open.

Now, after eight months on the sidelines through a recurring heel injury - plantar fasciitis of the right heel - Jorgensen has confirmed that he will back competing on court in Birmingham.

At last.

The Dane endured a tough time 12 months ago when he suffered a round two defeat at the YONEX All England and he contended just three tournaments thereafter last year.

But, after impressing for his nation in winning team gold at the European Team Championships last week, and with a Swiss Open final secured this, the 30 year old carries a European threat at the YONEX All England.

He will do so due to a protected ranking. At 112th currently in the world, Jorgensen is not seeded but after making history as the first European to win the China and Indonesia Opens, the Dane will be a danger man in the draw.

He has made four world circuit finals since his shot at 2016 YONEX All England glory with a title coming in China following a win over Chen Long in a repeat of his Birmingham final.

His credentials and form will be tested in Germany next week when he faces Lin Dan in the opening round - all good preparation ahead of a 2018 YONEX All England opener against Lee Dong Keun on the 14th March.

Welcome back Jan.
