YONEX All England volunteers to benefit from exciting new partnership with West Midlands Trains

YONEX All England volunteers to benefit from exciting new partnership with West Midlands Trains.

Badminton England are delighted to announce an exciting new strategic partnership with West Midlands Trains (WMT) ahead of the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships.

With our volunteers at the heart of the most prestigious world tour event on the badminton calendar, it has been confirmed that WMT – operator of services under the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway brands – will provide one free return journey for all 250 volunteers to the Championships.

The Championships are committed to exploring sustainable ways of working and are regularly reviewing its processes and partnerships to explore good practice and impactful changes for now and the future.

Building on our connection with businesses within the region, the relationship with WMT will accelerate our aspirations to reduce our carbon footprint by offering a more environmentally sustainable alternative to car travel.

We are thrilled that the benefits will be delivered directly to our volunteer workforce, who give their time freely to make these Championships a world class experience for players, coaches, fellow volunteers and badminton fans.

The event, taking place in the centre of Birmingham at the Utilita Arena, between 12th-17th March, is a key event on the Road to Paris 2024 with the world’s best players taking to the courts.

Inspiring the next generation of badminton players is paramount to the legacy of the YONEX All England and it is hoped that this new strategic partnership will continue to highlight and build equity in the event within the West Midlands region.

We would like to encourage all ticket holders and staff to travel by train using the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway networks.

Sophie Gardner, WMT Sales and Partnership Manager, said: “We are delighted to partner with Badminton England to help provide a transport solution for volunteers and spectators at the prestigious YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships.

“With hundreds of trains arriving daily at Birmingham New Street from a wide range of destinations, plus affordable prices, our services are the perfect choice for badminton fans across the country.”

Jenny Clark, Commercial Director at Badminton England, said: “We are thrilled to have partnered with West Midlands Trains. It is important that we continue to develop strategic partnerships that help us further grow the Championships and we’re delighted that this new collaboration allows us to support the incredible group of volunteers who make the event possible.”

“I am looking forward to working with WMT as we continue to build connections with local businesses in the region.”

The Utilita Arena is situated a 20-min walk away from Birmingham New Street station. The station is conveniently served by multiple operators including London Northwestern Railway (LNR), an operator running down the very backbone of England. It connects the economic powerhouses of London and Liverpool with the West Midlands. Tickets booked in advance offer the greatest saving, with London to Birmingham from £8 when booked in advance. Tickets are available up to 12 weeks in advance.

For those travelling locally, West Midlands Railway (WMR) offers a simple solution for event visitors travelling from West Midlands locations. The operator also serves Snow Hill and Moor Street stations – both located a walking distance from the Utilita Arena.

Book directly to avoid booking fees! For quick access to your tickets, download the LNR or WMR app!
